Major ground handling company Menzies Aviation has signed a new eight-year contract for services at Peru’s main international airport in Lima, marking a return to the country for the UK-based business after 17 years.
The contract for passenger and ramp services at Jorge Chavez International Airport was delivered by operator Lima Airport Partners (LAP) and will Menzies operate as one of the three ground handling companies at the airport.
Philipp Joeinig, Group CEO of Menzies Aviation, said: “Today’s announcement is a credit to a truly collaborative effort between our teams in the Americas, Europe and on the ground in Lima.
“We look forward to returning to Peru after 17 years to build a trusted partnership with Lima Airport Partners and working with many of our airline partners who currently operate at the airport.”
Menzies said it will begin a local recruitment drive to find employees to deliver its contract at the airport, which welcomes more than 21 million passengers per year from 25 airlines and 213.77 kilotonnes of cargo.
Jorge Chavez International is currently undergoing a significant $2bn expansion project including the construction of a new single-passenger terminal, three times larger than its current building, to increase its capacity to 30 million passengers a year.
