Malaysia Airports has launched travel-retail e-commerce platform, shopMYairports, which will provide an opportunity for airport retailers to expand their market and facilitate their business recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic’s impacts.
More people will now be able to access and purchase travel-exclusive and duty-absorbed products online and have it delivered to their homes.
The launch of the e-commerce platform at KL International Airport (IATA) is part of Malaysia Airports’ wider Airports 4.0 plan under its digital transformation initiative aimed at improving passenger experience particularly on the retail front.
It is also part of the operator’s efforts in facilitating business recovery for its airport retailers, who have been impacted by the pandemic.
Customers can use the shopMYairports platform to browse through the selection of products ranging from beauty, cosmetics, fashion, electronics and food and beverages offered by Malaysia Airports.
Malaysia Airports CEO Dato’ Mohd Shukrie Mohd Salleh said: “Malaysia’s e-commerce contribution to the digital economy is expected to see a growth projection of 20% in 2020 and this means that there is significant potential growth for Malaysia Airports and our retail partners.

By GlobalData“Our aim is to see shopMYairports contribute to at least 10% of retail sales at the airports.”
The airport’s retailers include Eraman, Heinemann, Karyaneka, Nooodles, Retail One, Sama-Sama Hotel and Sprint-Cass.
The e-commerce platform is a sustainable initiative that will assist retail partners to defer rental payments, extend credit terms to 120 days and organise airport-wide sales to help clear inventory.
Initial phase of the shopMYairports platform will focus on domestic travellers and local, home shoppers.
Malaysia Airports will also introduce on-ground services such as ‘Click and Collect’ to collect their purchase at designated counters upon arrival. Currently, it is working to offer concierge services.
shopMYairports is offering free delivery for a limited period of time for customers who wish to commence their digital airport retail experience. Payments can be made through debit card, Visa, Mastercard, Alipay and Union Pay.
Furthermore, Malaysia Airports will assist airline companies in the Network Reconnecting Programme (NRP).
