Lufthansa’s new short and medium-haul subsidiary airline Lufthansa City Airlines has announced its first set of destinations ahead of beginning services in mid-2024, including three international routes from Munich, Germany.

The new airline will fly to six German cities during initial operations, as well as Birmingham and Manchester in the UK and Bordeaux in France before gradually expanding to other destinations in Europe “in the coming months and years.”

All of the initial flights for the airline will go to and from Munich, covering Germany’s biggest cities including capital Berlin alongside Hamburg, Bremen, Cologne, Hanover, and Düsseldorf, with tickets set to be available from April.

Founded in 2022, City Airlines is part of Lufthansa’s aim of expanding its European network and has already ordered 40 A220-300 aircraft from Airbus, with four A319s also set to be deployed this year.

Lufthansa said: “The competitive strengthening of the short-haul network is essential for strengthening the Lufthansa Group’s market position and the planned growth of Lufthansa long-haul routes.

“Passengers on board Lufthansa City Airlines can expect the Lufthansa product offering and customer experience for short and medium-haul routes.”
