Long Island MacArthur Airport has installed multiple CASPR Mobile units to reduce viruses and other microbes in the air and on surfaces in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This continuous pathogen reduction technology is currently installed at the airport’s ticketing counters, security checkpoints, gate areas and baggage claims in an effort to protect the 1.6 million passengers the airport serves each year.
The technology extracts oxygen and moisture from ambient air using a natural catalytic converter process. It then produces and delivers trace levels of hydrogen peroxide to indoor spaces, at levels deemed by OSHA to be safe to people, pets, plants, and equipment.
Once in the air, the hydrogen peroxide eliminates microbes in the air and on surfaces. CASPR is claimed to be effective against bacteria, viruses, molds, VOCs, odours, and more, with a kill rate of around 99.96%.
Long Island MacArthur Airport commissioner Shelley LaRose-Arken said: “As airline passengers and employees return to our airport, we are committed to providing the highest level of comfort and confidence.
“While all the methods we evaluated have proven pathogen reduction properties, almost all require additional staffing or operating costs, do not allow for continuous operation in occupied spaces, and treat surfaces but not the air. CASPR met all four criteria.”

By GlobalDataBefore finalising on CASPR’s technology, the evaluation team at the airport analysed several pathogen reduction options, including enhanced chemical methods, hydrostatic misters, ultraviolet light, and natural catalytic conversion.
Commenting on the new development, CASPR Group president Dr Christophe Suchy said: “With CASPR in place, airline passengers and airport employees can receive additional protection and reassurances that these public spaces are safer as they return to more normal levels of commercial aviation.”
