US-based LJT and Associates has received a contract from Nasa to provide launch range operations support at the agency’s flight facility in Wallops Island, Virginia.

The $200m indefinite-delivery-quantity contract is valid for five years.

The contract, with cost-plus-fixed-fee and firm-fixed price ordering facility, involves launch range operations support such as for telemetry, tracking and logistics.

It also includes communications services for flight vehicles, including orbital and suborbital rockets, aircraft, satellites, unmanned aerial systems and balloons.

“Our flight and launch range services are critical to meeting government and commercial sector needs for accessing flight regimes worldwide.”

LJT will also provide information and computer systems services, and range technology sustainment engineering services.  It will also be responsible for testing, modifying and installing communications and electronic systems at launch and testing facilities, as well as launch control centres.

Wallops flight facility director Bill Wrobel said: “Wallops is a unique national asset, the hub of which is the Wallops launch range, one of only two ranges on the East Coast for providing routine, responsive and resilient access to space.

The contract period runs from 1 February 2019 to 31 January 2024.

In February, LJT received a $1.63m contract from the Naval Air Warfare Center in St. Inigoes, Maryland, to provide voice and data recorder replacement for the Navy’s shipboard Air Traffic Control.

The replacements are intended to support the launch, marshal and recovery operations aboard ships of CVN, LHA, and LHD Class.

The scope of this contract covers the development of a Commercial Ruggedised Recorder Reproducer and the delivery of 30 units.
