Bright Light Systems (BLS) has supplied high-mast LED lighting for a retrofit of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport’s (ATL) existing airport apron lighting in the US.

Along with The Jon Smith Group (JSG), BLS has installed Nova HM Series LED lights to upgrade the high-mast units illuminating the aircraft parking apron.

The upgrade is expected to result in energy savings of more than 50% when compared to the previous 1,000W high-pressure sodium lighting system.

ATL has switched to the new lighting to improve safety for pilots, ground personnel, and baggage handlers around the aircraft and throughout the ramp area.

Under the contract, BLS installed more than 750 LED lights on 80ft poles across concourses T, A, B, C, D, and E.

According to the company, the new LED lights will offer higher illuminance levels and better light coverage on the apron to support operations at night.

The airport has annual passenger traffic of more than 103 million and offers services to more than 150 US destinations and 70 international destinations.
