Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has reported that around 88.1 million passengers travelled through the airport last year, representing the highest number of passengers to date.
Compared to 2018, the airport recorded a year-on-year (YoY) growth of 0.62% in terms of passenger numbers.

The number of international passengers decreased by 1.37% over the period, while domestic passenger traffic increased by 1.45%. This equates to an additional 900,000 domestic passengers.
Of the total passengers who travelled through the airport, 70% were domestic while the remaining were international.
LAX launched its first non-stop services to Helsinki International Airport (HEL) with Finnair and Milan’s Malpensa International Airport (MXP) with Air Italy.
Only five airports in the US, including LAX, offer direct services to Helsinki. In addition, LAX is among one of the four US airports to offer a direct service to Milan, which operates from April to October each year.

Last year, Guadalajara, Mexico, London Heathrow and Paris Charles de Gaulle were the most popular destinations from LAX.
The airport also completed major projects under the $14.3bn modernisation project such as the Automated People Mover train and Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility.
This year, the airport will open the $2bn Midfield Satellite Concourse and complete the work on Terminal 1.5, among other projects.
