Hamad International Airport (HIA), the sole international airport in Qatar, has announced that it will implement the latest technologies to ensure employee and passenger safety after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The airport plans to use robotics and advanced thermal screening helmets.
HIA chief operating officer Badr Mohammed Al Meer said: “HIA has adapted to the changes brought on by the spread of Covid-19 on the world, especially on the travel sector.
“Recovery plans have been put in place with priority given to the safety and comfort of travellers and employees. These plans include the use of the latest advanced technology to achieve the highest safety standards for the future travel experience.”
The airport will carry out thermal screening and disinfection procedures. All passengers will undergo thermal and temperature screening.
The Smart Screening Helmet, a wearable intelligent helmet, is said to be a safe, effective and portable piece of equipment, which helps in contactless temperature measurement.

By GlobalDataThe helmet uses infrared thermal imaging, artificial intelligence and augmented reality display and can help in implementing mobile deployment-based control scenarios.
In addition, HIA will use disinfectant robots. These are completely autonomous and give out concentrated UV-C light to kill most microorganisms.
Hamad International Airport has provided hand sanitisers at important locations and will continue to enforce 1.5m social distancing with the help of floor markings, signage and distance seating.
The airport has also procured ultraviolet disinfection tunnels to disinfect the checked-in passenger luggage. The baggage trolleys and tubs will also be regularly disinfected.
Earlier this month, HIA reported a 4.7% year-on-year increase in cargo operations in the first quarter of this year.
In the first three months, the airport handled around 529,436t of cargo.
