Infrastructure company Granite has secured the DBB1 contract from the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) for the execution of the Airfield Safety Enhancements (ASE) programme at Tucson International Airport (TUS) in Arizona, US.
In the past decade, this is the 14th project awarded to the company by the airport.
Valued at nearly $25.7m, the contract covers the construction of the new bypass taxiway, including pavement removal, earthwork, pavement markings, electrical, drainage, and landscaping.
Under the ASE programme, the TUS airfield will be transformed to offer safety with the addition of a second parallel runway to serve the southern Arizona region.
As a key stage of the ASE programme, the DBB1 project aims to expand access for the Air National Guard, as well as other fixed-base operations on the airfield’s southwest part.
Granite area manager Anthony Alfonso said: “The DBB1 project naturally ties into our existing work at the airport and fills an anticipated break in construction on the CMAR. Securing this project allows our team to maintain focus on the airfield and provide best value to TAA on the ASE programme, benefitting all stakeholders.”
