The Gogo Galileo HDX antenna, an electronically steerable antenna from Gogo Business Aviation, has cleared the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)-mandated DO-160 qualification testing.
This ESA is designed to provide business aircraft of all sizes with access to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite networks.
The DO-160 testing validates the antenna’s resilience during flight including temperature changes, vibration, lightning strikes, moisture, aerodynamic stresses, radio wave penetration and others.
Gogo airborne product engineering vice president Jeremy Tyler said: “Passing DO-160 keeps us on track to receive the first-article Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) and commercially launch Gogo Galileo later this year.”
Developed in collaboration with Hughes Network Systems, a subsidiary of EchoStar, the Gogo Galileo HDX offers peak speeds close to 60 Mbps.
Looking ahead, Gogo plans to release the Gogo Galileo FDX for larger aircraft in the second quarter of 2025, with peak speeds of 200 Mbps.

By GlobalDataThe demand for the Gogo Galileo HDX antenna is strong among Gogo’s dealers, who have secured contracts for 27 STCs that could potentially serve over 18,000 aircraft worldwide.
This antenna will link to Eutelsat OneWeb’s LEO satellite network, which offers enterprise-grade mobility connectivity with consistent and low variability performance globally.
Currently, Gogo is taking orders for the HDX model, which promises a cost-effective and faster upgrade option for any existing AVANCE system compared to installing new competitive electronically steerable antenna LEO systems.
According to Gogo, 7,031 business aircraft are equipped with its broadband ATG systems as of 30 June 2024.
This includes 4,215 aircraft with a Gogo AVANCE L5 or L3 system.
