Emirates, the flag carrier of United Arab Emirates (UAE), has invested approximately $48m in comprehensive training suites to prepare both pilots and cabin crew for the introduction of Airbus A350 aircraft to its fleet.
The investment includes three full flight simulators equipped with Pilot Support Systems (PSS), designed in-house.
The PSS, claimed to be an industry-first initiative by Emirates, optimises training by allowing interactive flight deck setups during the briefing phase, which can be recalled in the simulator.
This system’s debrief mode enables instructors to review and playback training sessions, aiding in performance analysis.
The first A350 simulator has achieved a Level D qualification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), the highest standard for simulators, with zero findings – a notable achievement in the industry.
Emirates has ordered three A350 simulators, with the second currently undergoing EASA approval.

Emirates Flight Training Senior Vice President Capt Bader Al Marzooqi said: “Spearheading innovation is at the core of Emirates’ DNA, and that is reflected in our newly acquired A350 training equipment suites and our advanced pilot training facility set to open later in the year. We’re proud that we now have the potential to expand our pilot training capacity by 54%.
“With our investments in the new simulators and systems, our pilots and cabin crew are equipped, trained and supremely confident to manage any operational challenge safely and competently.”
So far, the carrier has trained around 30 pilots and 820 cabin crew members , with over 50 pilots expected to complete A350 simulator training by the end of November.
Emirates also partnered with IATA and Airbus to enhance the Competency-Based Training and Assessment programme for the A350 type rating.
With 65 A350s and 205 777Xs on order, Emirates is preparing for expansion and improved service on its network.
The airline’s upcoming advanced pilot training facility, spanning 63,318ft2 , will accommodate six full-flight simulator bays for A350 and Boeing 777X aircraft.
The facility will allow for more than 130,000 training hours annually across 17 simulators.
Meanwhile, in June this year, Emirates was fined by the US Department of Transportation (DOT) for operating flights using a US carrier’s code in prohibited airspace.
