Hong Kong SAR’s flag carrier Cathay Pacific has announced its order of 32 additional A320neo aircraft, bringing its current total order to 64.
The order will consist of two A320 family members, the A321neo and the A320neo, with the aircraft expected to be delivered by the end of 2029.
The 32 aircraft, which will be split between Cathay and its subsidiary HK Express, to serve customers flying inside Asia.
Cathay Pacific joined other airlines in switching to the new Airbus line on sustainability grounds. Airbus claimed the A320neo family is set to bring per-seat fuel improvements of 20%, along with an additional range of up to 500nm or two tonnes of extra payload.
Airbus chief commercial officer Christian Scherer emphasised how the A320neo family is set to transform passenger operations across the airline: “Cathay is one of the world’s leading airline groups and we are proud to be part of its recovery and growth plan.
“Operating out of the Cathay Group’s base at the heart of Asia, the A320neo family will enable it to expand its services across the region with a most efficient single-aisle fleet and a positive passenger comfort differentiation. With a significant reduction in fuel consumption, the aircraft will also bring an immediate contribution to the Cathay Group’s sustainability goals.”
