The Vale of Glamorgan Council has approved a £65m ($84.59) advanced technology centre at Cardiff Airport, part of a £100m ($130.13m) investment by Cardiff and Vale College.

The 130,000ft2 campus will be situated next to the college’s current International Centre for Aerospace Training. With the aim of being net zero, it will serve around 2,000 learners and over 100 staff.

Subject to approval from the Welsh Government on the full business case, construction is expected to start next year, with the opening slated for 2026.

The curriculum will be geared towards fostering economic growth and addressing the skills demands of employers in advanced technologies and sustainability.

This includes upskilling for renewable technologies and retrofitting skills necessary for achieving net zero carbon objectives.

The new campus will offer a variety of educational pathways including full-time courses, apprenticeships, part-time courses for workforce upskilling, and higher education programmes in partnership with universities.

Last month, Cardiff and Vale College also received planning consent for a new £35m waterfront learning campus in Barry, further expanding its educational facilities.

In May last year, Cardiff Airport adopted Veovo’s Intelligent Airport Platform to enhance operational efficiency and management.

The platform integrates various airport functions, providing real-time data and predictive analytics to improve decision-making processes and manage site operations more effectively.

Other UK airports utilising Veovo’s technology offerings include Birmingham, Gatwick and Belfast.

Construction of the advanced technology learning campus is expected to commence next year.
