Paris Region, Choose Paris Region, Groupe ADP, Airbus and Air France-KLM have launched a call for expressions of interest for the hydrogen branch in Paris airports to decarbonise aviation activities.
This global call for expressions of interest is in line with the French Government’s energy transition strategy and has the support of the European Commission, which is striving for zero-emissions aircraft by 2035.
The partners are aiming to convert the airports into ‘hydrogen hubs’ by altering the way airport infrastructures are planned and operated.
They have also expressed their intentions to shape a unique airport ecosystem centred around hydrogen, major corporations, SMEs, universities, start-ups and laboratories.
Aerospace and defence company Airbus stated that this open innovation initiative will start a technological revolution across the entire hydrogen value chain within the airport city.
With a goal to operate a future hydrogen-powered aircraft, the five partners will categorise and qualify developments in research and technologies, as well as test the feasible solutions.

By GlobalDataThey will subsequently prepare for the challenges of hydrogen’s supply and large-scale usage.
This unprecedented call for expressions of interest focuses on the storage, transportation and distribution of hydrogen, the diversification of hydrogen use and a circular economy around hydrogen.
From 11 February to 19 March, applications will be open and chosen projects will be revealed at the end of April.
Groupe ADP deputy CEO Edward Arkwright said: “We are ready, with our partners, to federate a unique ecosystem to make possible the progressive integration of hydrogen at Paris airports.
“We must prepare today to welcome the hydrogen aircraft in 2035 by transforming our airports into real hydrogen hubs, in which we wish to develop various uses, with our stakeholders, around airside and city-side ground mobility. Alongside other solutions, such as sustainable alternative fuels, the deployment of hydrogen aims to accelerate the decarbonisation of air transport.”
