TransDigm Group, the $31 billion US aerospace supplier, set the defence industry alight when it revealed it had bought the communications and navigation division of British aerospace manufacturing company Cobham for $965 million in cash.
TransDigm, which makes components, systems and sub-systems for use on commercial and military aircraft, is looking to add a manufacturer of antenna systems as well as radio, guidance and anti-jamming equipment for use on land, sea and in the air with the purchase.
Cobham said it is expected to generate about $225 million in revenue this year.
Cobham is headquartered in the UK but has an Arizona facility and employs over 700 people.
Other notable merger and acquisition activity in the defence sector last month included CAE’s acquisition of two flight simulation companies for a combined $120 million and Loral Space & Communications’ tie-up with Telesat Canada.
