atg airports are pleased to announce the successful completion of the contract to supply and install a medium intensity LED lighting system at Bresso Airfield, northern Milan.
The airport, which plays an important role in regional air travel whilst acting as the home of Aero Club Milano, decided upon installing a low-cost lighting system to provide them with safer operations and improved visual indication for approaching aircraft.
The airport chose the PEARL LED System for its outstanding lighting performance, low power consumption, ease of installation and maintenance, and affordability.
The medium intensity LED lighting system produces a photometric output in excess of the levels required by FAA L-861 and can be operated by the pilot using a handheld remote, providing complete control during approach.
By utilising innovative LED technology, the eco-friendly, low power consumption PEARL units offer efficient and long-lasting (typically 60,000h) illumination. Requiring virtually no assembly, the flexibility of the system allows it to be deployed on either grass or tarmac strips and, coupled with plug and play set-up of the lights, provides almost immediate operation.
Installed in conjunction with Monsud SpA and PRC Elettronica, the new PEARL system supplied included runway edge and combined threshold/runway end fittings, PAPI unit, windsock and a wireless remote control unit.
"Since the installation, the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) has shown his appreciation for the system in respect of the low investment cost and the great performances achieved," said Christian Perrotti, Business Development Europe for atg airports.
"The quality of the light output couple with the simplicity of the system really makes the PEARL system ideal for regional airports such as Bresso."
