Brüel & Kjær is pleased to announce that it has been chosen to supply NoiseDesk, its latest noise and flight track monitoring service to London Southend Airport.
London Southend Airport has been long established as an eastern gateway to London and expansion aims to enable local people to fly to a range of holiday and business destinations across Europe.
The airport was granted approval to extend its runway on the condition that it provided noise monitoring as part of a range of noise mitigation measures.
With one of the most densely populated catchments in the country and journey times of only 50 minutes into central London, London Southend aims to serve up to two million passengers per year by 2020.
The airport examined the market and in August concluded a tender process by choosing Brüel & Kjær’s NoiseDesk. Specifically designed for regional airports, NoiseDesk helps the airport manage its noise abatement programme with limited resources.
"NoiseDesk is an excellent fit for our requirements. Being web-based means that the airport has less technology to look after and the service delivery means that Brüel & Kjær look after everything, which is very attractive for a small administrative team such as ours," said Sam Petrie, airport development coordinator at London Southend Airport.
Noise monitoring will commence in 2011 with track monitoring coming on stream once radar development work is completed at the airport.
Kent Espersen, Brüel & Kjær’s European sales manager for airports said: "We are very pleased to provide NoiseDesk to its first European airport enabling the airport to develop whilst managing its environmental impact. As NoiseDesk is built on top of our flagship ANOMS airport noise monitoring system, there is a clear upgrade path as the airport develops to meet demand in the future."
NoiseDesk was chosen because its web-based interface was easy to use and designed to transport the operator through the workflow needed to accomplish the common airport noise abatement techniques such as track keeping, noise fines, complaint handling and activity reporting.
