IBS, a leading offshore software services and products company for the Travel, Transportation and Logistics industries, today announced that it has been assessed against Level 5 of the Capability Maturity Model (CMM) for Software, the highest maturity level for any software company. By joining the elite group of CMM Level 5 companies in the world, which constitute just 1.5% of software companies in the world, IBS has achieved one of its most challenging goals.
The assessment was planned and conducted under the expertise of the Lead Assessor from KPMG and an internal assessment team. The CMM model is established and maintained by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI), a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and operated by Carnegie Mellon University, USA. The CMM has become a de facto standard for assessing and improving software processes. Through the CMM, the Software Engineering Institute has put in place an effective means for modeling, defining, and measuring the maturity of the processes used by software professionals.
The quality of the human resources and business domain expertise, were two of the areas, which were highlighted as the key strengths of the organization. The assessment findings pointed out that the commitment and dedication of the young and enthusiastic employees, their technical expertise, comprehensive training programmes for skills development, process driven work culture, bid management expertise and competent groups aiding design and development function were some of the other factors which propelled this young organization to reach Level 5 maturity in a short span of time.
Mr. V K Mathews, CEO of IBS, says, ‘In our line of software services business, quality is all about conforming and delivering services (application systems, professional services, products and so on) to specifications, consistently, time after time. For me, quality, on an end-to-end level, is all about meeting customer expectations, consistently and always.’
IBS has earned the trust and appreciation of leading international players in the Travel, Transportation and Logistics industry, like Swissair (now SWISS), Emirates, Qantas, Mercator, EDS (Airline and Airport Solutions), SITA, Zurich Airport, Basel Airport and so on for having developed and implemented large and complex software projects. There are also several airlines (SAA, Air Lib, Air2000, JMC Airlines, Blue Panorama, Iberworld and so on) which use the IBS product TopAir for their flight scheduling, operations control and crew management functions.
IBS is a software development and support services company, with its global headquarters in India, and sales and business development offices in Atlanta (USA), Zurich (Europe), Dubai (Middle East) and Singapore (Asia-Pacific). Operating out of Technopark, Trivandrum, IBS is the largest exporter of software from Kerala. And today, by joining the ranks of CMM Level 5 companies, IBS has given Kerala more reasons to be proud. Rather than rest on its laurels, the organization plans to move ahead, by leveraging the CMM model to optimize processes further and gain maximum business advantage.
