Budget airline easyJet has cancelled over 100 flights from Gatwick Airport in London, UK over the last 24 hours after thunderstorms hit the surrounding area.
After cancelling over 50 flights on Sunday during the storms, the airline’s operations were also affected throughout Monday due to a knock-on effect on its schedule, leading to the cancellation of at least 50 more flights.
An EasyJet spokesperson told media outlets that the disruption from restricted arrivals and departures at Gatwick Airport had led to a number of aircraft being “out of position” but efforts are being made to make amends: “We are doing all possible to minimise the impact on our customers, providing those on cancelled flights with options to rebook or receive a refund as well as hotel accommodation and meals where required.”
Whilst multiple other airlines have also been affected by cancellations and delays at the airport, EasyJet’s operations appear to have been the most disrupted, likely due to the fact that the airline is the largest operator at the airport.
The issues at the airport could continue through the beginning of the week as well as the Met Office has put in more weather warnings for Monday and Tuesday (June 12 and 13).
A spokesperson for Gatwick Airport apologised for the situation and warned that passengers should check with their airlines regarding possible further disruptions.

The airport in London was affected by runway closures in December 2022 after heavy snow and sub-zero temperatures made it unsafe for flights to operate.
