San Antonio International Airport (SAT) in Texas, US, has presented the preliminary design and 3D model of its new terminal.
The new terminal will cover an area exceeding 850,000ft², which is more than the combined space of Terminals A and B.
It will feature up to 17 gates, six of which can house both domestic and wide-body international flights.
It will also have larger holdrooms at each gate and incorporate the latest technologies.
Additionally, the Terminal Development Program (TDP) will see the creation of a modern Federal Inspections Service area to help the airport expand international services.
Other plans include nearly 41,000ft² of new concessions space to accommodate shops and restaurants, as well as more than 29,000ft² of club lounge space.

By GlobalDataThe project also includes a landscaped, riparian paseo between the kerb and the terminal.
Furthermore, roadway upgrades have been planned to improve traffic flow.
For this project, San Antonio Airport System (SAAS) has been working alongside design firm Corgan and its project partners.
SAAS Airports director Jesus Saenz said: “If all goes to plan, we’ll put shovels in the ground around this time next year.
“When people step off a plane at SAT, there will be no question where they’ve arrived. The thoughtful way nature is being incorporated into the design will make them feel welcomed.
“And their experience getting through the airport will be even easier than it is now. We are elated to be at this milestone as we make critical decisions regarding the design, the layout and the ease of access that will impact millions of travellers as San Antonio continues to grow.”
TDP is expected to complete in the middle of 2028.
