Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), has awarded more than $167m worth of contracts and accumulated investment to further enhance its operational capabilities.
The contracts were awarded to various local, regional, and international companies at the Bahrain International Airshow 2022.
BAC CEO Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah said: “Over the three days of Bahrain International Airshow, we have forged important partnerships with leading service providers and strategic partners that will help to ensure BIA continues to meet its strategic objectives and exceed the expectations of travellers and other stakeholders.
“Investing in our ICT systems, cargo and logistics infrastructure, and duty-free offerings are key components of our growth strategy. With the deals signed during this year’s airshow, we are in an even stronger position to deliver value and quality across the aviation ecosystem.”
For the development of a new aircraft hangar, BAC signed a contract with Gulf Air, and to facilitate 24×7 support services for BIA’s core network setup it selected Beyon Solutions.
Gulf Business Machines was awarded a contract to create an aviation cyber security operation centre and support and maintain BIA’s wireless data network and voice collaboration.

By GlobalDataBAC appointed SITA for introducing new biometrics technology at BIA, while Thales-SITA will offer support and maintenance services. The scope includes mission-critical systems relevant to operational passenger processing and airport security.
DHL Express was contracted to further expand its local operations, and Bahrain Duty-Free for acquiring more space for its luxury retail offerings, and Bahrain Car Parks Company (Amakin) to provide maintenance services at the parking facilities of BIA.
Yousif Al Binfalah added: “The airshow brought together global aviation leaders, providing an ideal platform to showcase the Kingdom’s advancements in aviation, its competitive advantages as a regional hub, and the improvements made to BIA’s infrastructure, facilities, and services through the Airport Modernization Program.”
