The Government of Canada has allocated C$10m ($7.4m) to Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) to support key infrastructure projects.
This capital will help the airport rebuild its runway 29 and rehabilitate taxiways.
It will also be used to support upgrades to the access and control zones at the airport, in order to enhance circulation of international travellers between the restricted and non-restricted areas.
The funds will be provided from Transport Canada’s Airport Critical Infrastructure Program.
Launched in May last year, the programme offered C$$571.2m over a period of five years to airports for carrying out eligible infrastructure work associated with safety, security, mass transit systems connectivity, and Covid-19-linked testing and screening measures.
Canada Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra said: “As we continue with the return of aviation activity that supports the health, safety, and security of all Canadians, it is imperative that we maintain a vibrant and competitive Canadian air sector.

By GlobalData“These critical investments will allow the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport to invest in the infrastructure and tools needed to help re-invigorate the aviation industry and to allow Canadians to feel safe and secure when they travel.”
Apart from financing infrastructure projects, the Canadian government will also offer C$4.2m from Transport Canada’s Airport Relief Fund.
This is aimed at enabling the airport to maintain operations and essential air services for residents and workers in Québec City as well as surrounding communities.
YQB president and CEO Stéphane Poirier said: “On behalf of the entire team at the Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport, I would like to thank the Government of Canada for this funding.
“It will enable us to invest in key infrastructure projects to respond to the increase in air traffic and to effectively fulfil our role as a hub and driving force of socio-economic development for the greater Québec City area and all eastern Quebec.”
