The American Samoa Government, Department of Port Administration, has selected the architecture firm Woolpert to evaluate, plan and design a new terminal at Pago Pago International Airport (PPG) in American Samoa.
Under the contract, Woolpert will be responsible for offering engineering, planning, survey, and consulting services for PPG.
The airport currently serves seven South Pacific islands of this US territory.
The evaluation process for the new terminal is currently ongoing.
For this, the architecture firm is using VLX mobile mapping building scanner to capture the existing structure and utilities to deliver precise as-built drawings.
The collected data will allow Woolpert to decide what sections can be retained and reconstructed.

By GlobalDataConstructed 50 years back, the PPG terminal is said to have limits due to regional geography.
It has been expanded on several occasions to cope with changing requirements.
The new facility will use green materials and climate resilience practices and is also said to be ‘economically conscious’.
It will be developed using local, federal and US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funds.
For this project, Woolpert collaborated with airport terminal architecture firm Corgan and local engineering consultancy PPG Consultants.
Woolpert senior project manager and senior associate Curtis Brown said: “The current facility does not adequately support new aircraft or economic development plans for American Samoa, which is actively expanding infrastructure, industrial, commercial and business opportunities.
“We have been working with the American Samoa government over the last few years, reconstructing and extending runways, and we truly appreciate their culture and values, as well as their needs and vast potential.”
In December 2020, Woolpert secured a contract to offer architecture and on-call engineering services at Purdue University Airport in Indiana, US.
