Afghanistan Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) reportedly announced that all the technical issues at the Hamid Karzai International Airport (KBL) in Kabul have been addressed and it is ‘ready’ for international flights.

According to Afghanistan’s TOLOnews, CAA has requested neighbouring countries and the international community to resume flight operations. Officials also told the publication that domestic flight services have restarted from the airport.

Recently, Kabul Airport also received a few flights from UAE, Qatar and Pakistan.

CAA spokesperson Mohammad Naeem Salehi was quoted by TOLOnews as saying: “Technically, there is no problem ahead of international flights. We are looking to find answers from neighbouring countries about whether they will start flights to Kabul airport or not. Currently, domestic flights are continuing.”

Notably, international flight operations from Kabul were suspended after Taliban took over Afghanistan in August.

Subsequently, the US took over air traffic control at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, so that the safe departure of its staff from the country can be facilitated.

Last month, India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) reportedly received a letter from the Taliban to resume their commercial flights between India and Afghanistan.

The TOLOnews report added that some of the Afghan citizens who received Iran and Pakistan visas raised concerns about the rise in ticket prices. Some tourism company owners have also complained about the steep hike in flight ticket fares.

Afghanistan tourism companies union head Masoud Bina was quoted by TOLOnews as saying: “Prices for international flights have increased. The price of Pakistan tickets were $150 to $200 and now they have climbed to $1,200.”
