Aviation services company Swissport has secured a five-year contract from British airline group easyJet at Berlin Brandenburg International Airport (BER).

From 1 October, Swissport will offer full ground handling services for easyJet passengers at the check-in and gate at Berlin Airport.

It will also be responsible for providing aircraft handling on the apron, including baggage loading and pushback services.

The contract will be valid until 2026.

Swissport International Central and Eastern Europe senior vice-president Willy Ruf said: “We are honoured and grateful that easyJet has entrusted us with the handling of their hub in Berlin.

“The new contract is a sign of the trust we have been able to build together through our various collaborations across our network in Europe.

With a workforce of nearly 200 employees, Swissport currently serves 17 airlines at Berlin Airport.

Additionally, Swissport has renewed its contract with easyJet for airport ground handling in Basel and Geneva by five years, retroactive to 1 September 2020.

Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, easyJet had nearly a dozen aircrafts based at each airport and represented around 50% of Swissport’s volume in Basel and Geneva.

In 2019, Swissport served almost 5.5 million passengers on behalf of easyJet at Basel‘s EuroAirport and nearly eight million easyJet passengers in Geneva.

In March, Swissport signed a contract with South Korean airline startup Aero K to provide ground services at Cheongju International Airport (CJJ).

Commencing on 1 April, the airport ground services will be provided by Swissport AIK, which is a joint venture (JV) between Swissport and Aero K.
