Norwegian air navigation service provider (ANSP) Avinor Air Navigation Services has selected aerospace company Thales for its new Safety Nets Server.
Thales was chosen after an international competitive tender. Safety Nets Server will be installed at Stavanger, Oslo and Bodo air traffic control centres (ARTCC) and completely incorporated in a virtualised environment.
The technology can detect conflict beforehand and has a lower-nuisance alert rate compared to other safety nets solutions.
It is based on TopSky-Safety Nets, which is an essential element of Thales’ TopSky-Air Traffic Control (ATC).
The new system will support Norwegian air traffic controllers in upholding the highest levels of security and enable Avinor Air Navigation Services to cut down greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).
In addition, the company will offer long-term maintenance and support services for at least five years.

Modern technology can assist experts in their decision making. The technology we now provide to Norwegian air traffic controllers for earlier conflict detection will enhance flight safety and efficient traffic operation. This is another example of how Thales technology can create better solutions for Norway.”
