Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Qatar has secured independent verification from British Standards Institution (BSI) for the implementation of Covid-19 ICAO Aviation Health Safety Protocols.
BSI conducted verification after the successful audits for Compliance to International Civil Aviation Organisation Civil Aviation Recovery Taskforce (ICAO CART).
The verification was granted based on the guidelines implemented by HIA during the pandemic, including measures for transferring, departing, and arriving passengers.
BSI will continue to evaluate the airport to ensure compliance is maintained over time.
The airport received the verification certificate during an official handover ceremony attended by Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker, Qatar State ambassador Jon Wilks, Qatar Civil Aviation Authority president Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al-Subaey and HIA chief operation officer Mohammed Al-Meer, among others.
Commenting on the achievement, Abdulla bin Nasser Turki Al-Subaey said: “Qatar’s Civil Aviation Authority continuously works on improving and developing the country’s aviation regulations to ensure that the latest health, safety, and security standards are implemented.

By GlobalData“This achievement confirms the key role played by the authority to ensure compliance with international standards, as well as the leading role of Hamad International Airport, one of the best airports in the world.”
Mohammed Al-Meer added: “We always strive to provide consistently high-quality services for all our stakeholders. The verification reflects our capability in maintaining HIA’s position as a leading airport in the world, in these unprecedented times.
“As the world is adjusting to the new normal, the international recognition we get from BSI is important to ensure HIA’s operational capabilities at all times.”
BSI Assurance Services Group executive director Pietro Foschi said: “We welcome and congratulate the leadership demonstrated by Hamad International Airport to be the first to achieve this verification.
“The challenges presented by Covid-19 to organisations, employees and consumers have had a huge impact and as we adjust to the ‘next normal’, organisations around the world are implementing new ways of working as part of a progressive recovery.”
HIA is said to be first airport in the world to be certified by BSI for its Covid-19 Aviation Health Safety Protocol implementation.
In July, the airport installed new security screening technology that can detect explosive materials in complex items and structures.
