A public consultation has begun on London City Airport’s draft master plan, which reveals the steps to be taken to make the airport sustainable and carbon neutral over the next 15 years while ensuring all-round development of the facility.
The 12-week public consultation on the draft master plan started on 28 June and the deadline to submit the feedback is 20 September.

Over the last five years, the airport has witnessed a 42% increase in passenger number and is looking to upgrade its capabilities to meet future passenger needs.
London City Airport said that it will promote the use of the latest generation of cleaner and quieter airplanes, which are 17% more fuel-efficient compared to their predecessors.
As a result, these new aircraft, such as the Airbus A220 and Embraer E2, could represent 75% of all aircraft operating to and from the airport by 2035.
After becoming carbon neutral by the end of this year, the airport will work to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

The planned development of the airport will create up to 2,500 new jobs for locals, along with an overall annual economic contribution of £2bn by 2035.
London City Airport CEO Robert Sinclair said: “This draft master plan is a long-term vision for London City Airport, detailing how London’s most central airport can meet continued demand sustainably, create jobs and opportunities for East London, and support the capital as a major global city for tourism and business.
“These proposals reflect the airport’s changing role, with an increasing proportion of leisure passengers choosing the airport, and East London’s continued transformation. Most importantly, sustainability is central to our thinking.
“We have carefully developed these plans to strongly incentivise our airlines to re-fleet to cleaner, quieter new generation aircraft, minimise further construction activity, reduce emissions, limit aircraft noise, preserve air quality, and create meaningful opportunities for our local community.”
After considering and incorporating public views and suggestions, a final master plan will be published before the end of the year.
