Almost 6.7 million passengers landed at London’s Heathrow Airport in May, representing a 1.4% increase on last year.
May was also Heathrow Airport’s 31st consecutive record growth month, backed by travellers spending long weekends away due to bank holidays.
According to data released by the airport, domestic traffic saw growth of 2.2% following the opening of Flybe’s new routes to Newquay and Guernsey.
More than 134,000 metric tonnes of cargo were transported through Heathrow during the month.
The airport has plans to introduce an ultra-low emission zone and wider vehicle access charge to protect air quality and minimise congestion.
Heathrow recently invested more than £50m ($63.5m) in new computed tomography (CT) security equipment.

By GlobalDataFurthermore, eGates at UK airports are now accessible to citizens from America, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Japan.
Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye said: “With more countries making use of the eGates, we’re now able to offer passengers from key trading partners a world-class experience at the border, showing that Britain is open for business.
“An expanded Heathrow will be key to strengthening these links and we are getting on with delivering our plan as quickly as possible to ensure the UK remains one of the world’s great trading nations as the country leaves the EU.”
On 18 June, the airport will commence a twelve-week consultation on its preferred masterplan for the project.
The consultation will provide the public with an opportunity to see in detail and comment on the airport’s latest plan.
