United Airlines has started operations at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) Terminal B new eastern concourse’s five new gates, according to the Port Authority.
Starting on 2 June, the airline has begun operating 40 flights a day to US cities such as Denver and Houston.
The movement of United Airlines’ operations to the new Terminal B concourse is part of $8bn transformation of LGA into a unified airport.
Port Authority executive director Rick Cotton said: “The move of United and its passengers into the first new concourse at Terminal B marks another key milestone of the $8bn redevelopment of an entirely new LaGuardia Airport.
“This is another important step in our ongoing commitment to provide world-class facilities that turn governor Cuomo’s vision for a 21st century LaGuardia into reality. And we are undertaking this comprehensive rebuilding of LaGuardia Airport while continuing full operation at LaGuardia and serving record numbers of passengers.”
Additionally, the new United Club has opened and is located at the new concourse’s second floor. The new 250,000ft² concourse opened in December last year.

By GlobalDataPort Authority chairman Kevin O’Toole said: “The opening of five new gates and a state-of-the-art United Club is a major step for the LaGuardia Airport redevelopment. We are that much closer to completing the first new airport in 25 years.
“The transformation of LaGuardia Airport is not only going to modernise our airport but improve the customer experience as well.”
The eastern concourse now has 16 of 18 new gates in operation, with the remaining two due to open next year.
