Air traffic simulation and voice technologies provider UFA has supplied its ATVehicle Airside Driving Simulator to Air Navigation Services Finland (ANS Finland).

The simulator delivery is part of an upgrade to the ATTower Air Traffic Simulation system at ANS Finland’s training institute Avia College in Vantaa.

Since 2003, ANS Finland has been using UFA’s ATTower simulator product suite for Ab Initio, Rating, Refresher and Emergency training for its controllers and controllers from ANS’ across the globe.

ATVehicle is capable of simulating more than 20 vehicles ranging from cars, trucks, specialised aircraft rescue and fire-fighting equipment, and snow plows with customised heads-up displays and input controls.

The simulator has been fully integrated with ATTower for joint driver-controller training.

“This upgrade will increase our capacity and capability to train and simulate more complex operations for safer airport operations.”

Using ATVehicle, ANS Finland can offer air side driver training for familiarisation, airfield maintenance, apron operations, snow clearing, as well as fire and rescue services.

ANS Finland senior vice-president Matts-Ander Nyberg said: “This upgrade will increase our capacity and capability to train and simulate more complex operations for safer airport operations. We are happy to further enhance ANS Finland’s cooperation with UFA through this arrangement.”

Avia College installed a new 180° ATTower Tower Simulator and augmented the two existing 360° Tower and eight Radar simulators that significantly boosted its training capacity.

State-owned ANS Finland manages and provides en-route services in the Finnish airspace, as well as manages aerodrome control and approach control services for 22 airports in Finland.

UFA’s wholly owned German subsidiary ATCSim also operates the ATCSim Innovation Center in Bavaria.
