Hosting over 400 separate businesses and boasting a workforce of around 76,000 people, Heathrow Airport is one of the largest private water networks in Europe. The UK hub had previously chosen Affinity for Business as its clean water provider and has now extended its contract in a bid to improve on-site sustainability performances.

As part of the deal, the company will provide water services and help Heathrow develop new sustainability plans. The partnership is part of the airport’s Heathrow 2.0 programme, which is aimed at setting sustainability goals and improving performances, and will last for an initial five years.

Heathrow Airport Categories manager Keith Lockhart said: “As a busy airport, Heathrow is one of the biggest consumers of water in the local area and we have a duty to act responsibly and sustainably when it comes to its use.

“Affinity for Business are not only a reliable partner that get the basics right, they also share our values and goals when it comes to great service and a sustainable future. We believe they will meet the challenges presented by our ambitious sustainability strategy, Heathrow 2.0.”

Affinity for Business will work with Heathrow to explore the airport’s asset management and find innovative ways to reduce the overall water requirement across the Heathrow estate. This will include cutting down potable water waste and introducing non-treated water recycling schemes.

Heathrow recently began looking for innovation partners ahead of its north-west runway expansion development. The hub is searching for industry players who can offer ideas on how to make the multi-billion pound project more efficient, sustainable and affordable.
