Gulfstream Aerospace is set to build a new maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at its existing site in Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport in the US.
The $55m facility will expand the present Gulfstream site at the airport and will help the company to provide better maintenance and services to its growing customer fleet’s needs.
Set to be opened by the second quarter of next year, the proposed Savannah Service Center East is expected to create nearly 200 jobs.
Once completed, the 202,000ft² centre will be equipped with hangar space, offices and back shops.
To be situated on the east side of the airport, the centre will complement the Gulfstream Savannah Service Center, a purpose-built business jet maintenance facility in Savannah, Georgia, US.
It will also increase the size of Gulfstream’s existing facility at the airport to more than one million square feet to provide various services such as aircraft-on-ground resources, hourly and calendar-driven airframe inspections, avionics installations and interior modifications.

By GlobalDataGulfstream Aerospace president Mark Burns said: “This expansion of our customer service and support organisation is the result of the strong and steady fleet growth we’ve had for several years and the arrival of the Gulfstream G500 and G600 in the coming months.
“As we’ve announced recently, we’re also growing to meet customer needs in Appleton, Wisconsin, and Van Nuys, California.
“These new facilities will keep us well-positioned for support, maintenance and refurbishment of the Gulfstream fleet, which is now at nearly 2,700 aircraft and continues to grow.”
Burns further noted that the proposed expansion at Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is based on its partnership with Savannah Technical College.
The college’s aviation programmes have so far provided more than 500 skilled employees to Gulfstream and are expected to provide the additional workforce required for the latest expansion.
