The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has teamed up with the Bulgarian air navigation service provider BULATSA to develop and implement an airspace strategy for Bulgaria.
Both organisations have agreed to further boost their existing cooperation to create the Bulgarian National Airspace Strategy, which seeks to provide benefits to the travelling public.
The initiative aims to support national economic growth while making the Bulgarian aviation sector more competitive.
BULATSA director general Georgi Peev said: “The development of a national airspace strategy would further enhance the good cooperation with our customers and partners and would contribute to achieving the SES high-level goals.
“The implementation of BULATSA’s key projects related to airspace reorganisation and to capabilities to meet high traffic levels combined with increased complexity of operations is expanding the foundation for the delivery of BULATSA’s ambitious targets.”
Growing demand for air transport in the country has made it essential for Bulgaria to further modernise its airspace and air traffic management (ATM) network to improve on safety, operational expenses, CO2 emissions and flight delays.
