By GlobalDataFrost & Sullivan interviewed 18 senior executives from airports, airlines and industry experts, as well as engaged with 50 airports to develop this report.
It recommends the development of a modern IT environment at the airports to create value for stakeholders, a key determinant amongst airports to attract passengers and airlines amidst growing competition.
Amadeus Airport IT head John Jarrell said: “Without a doubt, route economics is fundamental to airlines when selecting airports.
“By incorporating IT into its value proposition, an airport can strengthen its positioning and points of differentiation in both the passenger experience and operational efficiency.
“Cost savings for customers may emerge, as well as enhanced business models, which will strengthen the relationship between airports, airlines, other tenants, and passengers.”
The report suggests the utilisation of IT as a strategic driver of value for airlines in key areas such as passenger experience and introducing new revenue streams and processes.
It also calls for focusing on the requirements of passengers to identify specific areas of improvement and harness the potential of technology to improve operations efficiency and gain competitive advantage.
