The airport has been seeing a steep growth trajectory and is foreseeing a rising demand on air travel.
CH2M HILL will be providing project management services for this phase of the runway development programme, which will include feasibility design.
Under the project, the airport will see the construction of a runway, in addition to its two existing runways.
According to the airport, it is expected to support the direct employment of 23,000 people and contribute $3.21bn to the Victorian gross state product.
With the existing population of 4.35m metropolitan inhabitants in Melbourne, the project aims to meet the 2033 forecasted capacity demand of 64m annual passengers by developing a third runway.
