The new terminal of Mayotte Airport has been opened by French President François Hollande.
To be operated by SNC-Lavalin, the facility can accommodate close to 600,000 passengers every year and can also be expanded further to accommodate approximately 1.2 million passengers in future.
Construction of the new terminal took roughly 18 months to complete and created 90 temporary jobs. Approximately 60% of the labour was performed by Mahoran companies.
SNC-Lavalin Group senior vice-president for operations and maintenance in Europe Youssef Sabeh said: "SNC-Lavalin has been working with French public authorities on major transportation, social infrastructure and urban planning projects for more than two decades.
"Our ability to develop airports and manage them sustainably contributes significantly to improving the accessibility and appeal of regions."
The airport generates approximately 250 jobs each year.
