French airport architecture specialist ADP Ingeniérie (ADPI) and Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) have revealed the design of new terminal building at China’s Beijing New Airport.

Dubbed the Daxing scheme, the concept was developed by ADPI and is expected to accommodate 45 million passengers a year when the operations begin.

Beijing’s existing Capital Airport is one of the world’s biggest airport, yet it is exceeding its planned capacity, necessitating the creation of new airport to reduce traffic.

After ADPI won the bid, the company joined forces with with Zaha Hadid Architects to shape its proposal which is likely to become one of the world’s largest airport passenger terminals.

The terminal is expected to have a flexible layout, which will be designed to adapt into different configurations and is likely to be connected to national rail services, reported Dezeen magazine.

Apart from ADPI and ZHA, the design team will consist of competition consortium group members, including Buro Happold, EC Harris, and Mott MacDonald.
