The Pennsylvania Department of Transport (PennDOT) in the US has announced investments in the safety measures and operations of six airports in the state.
PennDOT secretary Leslie Richards said that the $9.7m grant will be distributed through the Aviation Transportation Assistance programme, a capital budget grant programme funded with bonds.
Authorised by the general assembly, the grants will leverage more than $8.3m in local matching funds. PennDOT’s bureau of aviation will be administering the grant to the airport.
Richards said: "With aviation supporting thousands of jobs in Pennsylvania, it is vital that we ensure airports in Pennsylvania can make safety and operational upgrades.
"These projects are also investments in the communities these airports serve."
The airports that will benefit from the grant include Allegheny County Airport, which will receive $2.9m for the rehabilitation of its terminal public parking lot and sidewalks.
