Sikorsky Aircraft’s X2 Technology demonstrator has successfully achieved a speed of 250kt true air speed in level flight at the Sikorsky Development Flight Center.

During a 1.1-hour flight, the demonstrator helicopter reached the speed milestone, an unofficial speed record for a helicopter.

The demonstrator also reached 260kt in a very shallow dive during the flight.

Sikorsky Advanced Programs programme manager Jim Kagdis said that its primary key performance parameter had been met.

“The 250kt milestone was established as the goal of the demonstrator from its inception,” he said.

The technology demonstrator is equipped with an integrated suite of technologies to advance the counter-rotating coaxial rotor helicopter.
