The Department of Civil Aviation of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar (DCA) has awarded a contract to Germany-based COMSOFT to ensure smooth and safe operations during heavy traffic inflows in the region.
Under the terms of the agreement, Comsoft – Carpe Diem will modernise the country’s Aeronautical Information Management (AIM) infrastructure to accommodate the increasing air traffic.
Additionally, it will migrate all AIS into a digital data presentation consisting of COMSOFT’s Aeronautical Information Management Database – CADAS-AIMDB, and electronic publication solution – CADAS-EPS.
CADAS-AIMDB is designed to serve as a base for integrating AIM applications and components such as electronic AIP, charting, or procedure design.
It also features a collaborative document management system specially designed for electronic aeronautical information publications (eAIP), including amendments, supplements and circulars enabled to operate with the legacy systems.
The project will also include two Charting workstations, six AIS Flight Data Terminals and two Pilot Briefing workstations.

By GlobalDataThe new solution is expected to increase the integrity and consistency of aeronautical information.
First phase of the project is slated to begin later this year.
DCA said in a statement: "COMSOFT’s CADAS-AIMDB facilitates completion of the second stage of the ICAO AIS to AIM roadmap and we have no doubt that COMSOFT – CARPE DIEM Ltd will be the perfect partner as we modernise our air traffic management.
"Improving our data quality with COMSOFT’s AIM solution is also advantageous for Performance Based Navigation (PBN) which will be implemented at all international airports and some domestic ones."
The solution also serves as first-class foundation for electronic terrain and obstacle data management (eTOD), aerodrome mapping (AMDB) and digital NOTAM.
According to a report by Myanmar’s Air Navigation Safety Regulation director U Tike Aung, the air traffic in the country has witnessed an increase of 55% between 2005 and 2012 creating the need for increased capacity for enhanced traffic operations.
Myanmar hopes to host over 7.5 million tourists by 2020 which has necessitated the need for a modernised air traffic infrastructure in the country.
