Global information and communications technology (ICT) services provider Getronics has won a five-year contract with AGS Airports Limited to provide IT support services as AGS separated from Heathrow Holdings.
A partnership between Ferrovial and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA), AGS Airports was formed in 2014 to acquire Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports from Heathrow Holdings.
AGS therefore had to create a standalone IT infrastructure and, one that unified all three airports under the same, improved managed IT infrastructure.
As over 13 million customers pass through its airports every year, AGS needed to work with a provider that will be able to offer IT support services within budget and tight separation time-frames and with minimal disruption to the critical airport operations that the IT infrastructure supports.
Getronics has been chosen by AGS because of its reputation as a company with proven experience in helping businesses transition complex IT systems amid M&A activity.
With the agreement, Getronics has taken on the IT support services associated with the separation, including telephone and support desk operations, and provision of on-site engineers at Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports.

By GlobalDataSince the separation from Heathrow Holdings, the support services have been stable with a marked improvement in end user satisfaction.
The new support services have enhanced AGS’ ability to cater to the customer services better.
AGS Airports Limited group head of IT Chris Tames said: "Airport IT systems rely on multiple complex applications and services running seamlessly. Getronics has a wealth of experience in helping organisations transition their IT, many in separation situations similar to our own."
In the first phase of the project, Getronics has been able to move AGS on to its robust support model, seamlessly transitioning managed IT support services and maintenance.
Scheduled to be delivered in early 2016, the second phase will see AGS move its networking systems to Getronics.
After the completion of the separation, focus will be on Getronics’ setting up and delivery of a project office that facilitates additional IT projects in support of AGS IT’s strategy, thereby supporting the needs of the business.
Getronics Group CEO Mark Cook said: "Our experience in this sector help us to demonstrate our understanding of the pressures and priorities customers like AGS Airports face in order to keep operations running smoothly."
In June 2014, Getronics was selected by London’s Gatwick Airport for a period of over four years to provide staffing services for several IT projects running across multiple airport departments.
