US-based Butler National has secured a supplemental type certificate (STC) approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to install its ADS-B(Out) avionics solution on the Learjet 24/25 and Learjet 35/36 series aircraft.

Following the approval, the ADS-B(Out) solution can be retrofitted with the two existing Garmin transponders, including GTX-345R or GTX-335R transponders, and the GTN 625, 725, 650 or 750 navigator/GPS/SBAS WAAS to track the real-time location of aircraft.

The Butler National ADS-B solutions can also be installed on the Learjet 60, Learjet 35/36 and the Learjet 24/25 series airplanes.

"We have taken on the opportunity to allow Learjet operators compliance with the ADS-B(Out) requirements well in advance of the 2020 deadline."

The US has already set January 2020 as the deadline for aircraft operators to install ADS-B equipments on their fleet.

Butler National president and CEO Clark Stewart said: "We have taken on the opportunity to allow Learjet operators compliance with the ADS-B(Out) requirements well in advance of the 2020 deadline.

“We have received considerable operator interest in the solutions and have scheduled installation slots later this year.

“We are moving forward with adding the Learjet Model 31/31A and Learjet Model 55 to the STC, as well as offering TCAS II-compatible solutions.”

The FAA approval has also allowed installations for various operator functionality levels and ADS-B (Out) compliance.

Installing Garmin GTN could also provide complete WAAS/LPV coupled approach capability and roll-steering guidance to the autopilot.

The GTX-345R installation provides ADS-B(In) functionality on applications for portable electronic devices, including iPads.

Butler and its subsidiary Avcon Industries currently provides aircraft maintenance, such as A or B inspections along with the ADS-B retrofit.
