Paris-Orly Airport, spread over 3,700 acres, is located 14 miles (22.5km) away from the city of Paris in France. When opened in 1932 it was named as Villeneuve-Orly Airport. The airport, which is operated by Aéroports de Paris (ADP), handled 27.13 million passengers in 2011.
Paris-Orly Airport expansion
In October 2012, ADP announced its plans to revamp Paris-Orly Airport with an estimated investment of €450m ($580m). The expansion project will merge the two terminals to form a single terminal that will be able to handle up to 40 million passengers a year. It will also allow the airport to handle larger aircraft, such as the A380 Superjumbo. The revamp is expected to be completed by 2018.

Paris-Orly Airport terminal features
The airport currently has two terminals, which include Orly Ouest (Orly West) and Orly Sud (Orly South). The south terminal is used for long-distance flights, while the west terminal is used for shorter trips. Paris-Orly is facilitated with 220 check-in desks, 72 gates and 65 air bridges.
The south terminal has two two-level concourses. It is facilitated with two halls, one for non-Schengen travellers and the other for Schengen travellers. It has passenger facilities that include airline ticket counters, internet access, currency exchange, cash dispenser, pharmacy, baby care area, passport control desk, and a concierge service desk.
The west terminal has three levels with two concourses, including one arrival and two departure levels. The terminal also has a moving walkway located near Door A and Hall 1 connecting it to the south terminal. The terminal facilities include business work stations, conference centre, post office, internet access, baggage services and rental cars.
Baggage handling systems Paris-Orly passenger terminal
The baggage handling systems at the airport are located in Hall 4 of the west terminal. In December 2004, ALSTEF Automation delivered the full range of baggage handling equipment to the airport. The scope of the contract included installation of 10 check-in baggage handling systems and two lines featuring explosion detection systems (EDS).
In March 2011, Fives Cinetic was awarded with a contract to modernise the baggage carrousels at the west arrival terminal of the airport. The modernisation was completed in 2012. The scope of the contract included dismantling the former arrival circuits, and installing and rolling out two new baggage deliveries with carrousels. It also included two lines to deliver special bulky luggage
Cargo and maintenance facilities at Paris-Orly Airport
The airport has 46,000m2 of warehouse space with a capacity to store 800,000t of cargo. Other storage facilities include heated storage, refrigerated storage and deep-freeze storage facilities. The airport also has aircraft maintenance facilities and mechanical handling equipment.
Paris-Orly Airport ground transportation
The airport has numerous ground transportation facilities available. It is connected to the A106 autoroute. RATP, the state-owned public transport operator, provides to and fro bus services for the airport.
Car rental offices are located in the west terminal, while taxi and shuttle services are also available.
The RER B train line at Antony train station connects the airport with the Orlyval automatic shuttle. The shuttle also connects the airport to the RER C train at Pont de Rungis – Aéroport d’Orly.
The airport is expected to be connected with Tramway T7 in 2013. The tramway will connect the south terminal of the airport to Villejuif – Louis Aragon on Paris Métro Line 7.
Parking at Paris-Orly Airport
The airport has five parking lots available, which include P0, P2, P4, P5 and P7. It has 10,580 short-term and 7,060 long-term parking spaces. P0 and P2 are long-term parking lots, with a combined parking space of over 7,300. The short-term parking lot P5 is located at a walking distance from the west terminal.
