The Ontario International Airport (ONT) in Southern California has secured a $7.07m grant from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to enhance security measures and passenger conveniences at its terminals.
This investment is aimed at elevating the customer experience while tackling increasing passenger volumes.
The airport sought this funding specifically to reconfigure security checkpoints in Terminal 2 and Terminal 4 to include additional screening lanes necessary for handling the growing number of passengers.
The Security Screening Checkpoint Expansion Project will augment checkpoint capacity by adding two new screening lanes at Terminal 2 and one at Terminal 4.
This expansion is expected to mitigate congestion and boost passenger throughput by up to 15% during peak travel times.
Additionally, the project will involve the construction of new secure area exit corridors and improve facilities for passengers with special needs.

By GlobalDataONT authority board of commissioners Alan D. Wapner said: “We thank the FAA and the Biden-Harris Administration for recognising our need and investing in our international gateway, and we are equally grateful to our congressional leaders, Reps. Pete Aguillar (33rd District), Norma Torres (35th District) and Ken Calvert (41st District), who supported our application.
“Ontario International is among the fastest growing airports in the US and we are on a record-setting pace for passenger volume in. It is therefore critical that we continue to improve our terminal facilities to ensure passenger security and comfort while managing greater passenger volumes, and the FAA grant will help us do just that.”
ONT is projected to serve more than seven million passengers this year, marking its busiest year since returning to local ownership in 2016.
The grant is part of the FAA’s Airport Terminal Program, an initiative established by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
