NATS, an air navigation service provider based in the UK, and Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) have joined hands to upgrade the existing cross-border arrival management system (XMAN) at London Heathrow Airport.

The upgrade will enable air traffic controllers to reduce delays for both aircraft and passengers travelling into the airport.

"The upgrade will enable air traffic controllers to reduce delays for both aircraft and passengers travelling into the airport."

The new system will send data on delays at the airport directly to the IAA’s Shannon en-route control centre. The air traffic controllers at the centre will then co-ordinate with the airport's inbound traffic and try to forecast delays.

Besides reducing aircraft delays, the new system will also reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions.
