Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea, is set to open a new passenger terminal ahead of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games starting in February.

The five-storey, 384,336m² terminal will be opening on 18 January. It is capable of handling approximately 18 million passengers annually.

With both terminals in operation, Incheon airport will be able to process 72 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo each year.

The new terminal will support Korean Air, as well as KLM, Air France and Delta. Several self-check-in desks and full-body scanners will be available at the terminal building.

“Incheon International Airport hopes to expand after the project is complete to include a third terminal and a fifth runway.”

The roof of the new terminal is equipped with solar photovoltaic panels to reduce energy consumption.

VIP lounges, concession and retail outlets, a transfer hotel, an aircraft observation deck and various other facilities will be featured at the new terminal.

Additionally, it will be equipped with automatic boarding systems as well as an arrivals and departures flight information display system (FIDS).

Currently, the fourth phase of the expansion to the airport is underway. This includes a fourth runway and upgrades to communications that will be completed by 2023.
